The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) of Ketu South Municipality in the Volta Region, Mr Elliot Edem Agbenorwu, has justified a recent swoop carried by the national security agents in Aflao Traditional Area which operations had led to the arrest of about 28 persons suspected to be dealing with drugs including; cannabis and other hard drugs.
According to Mr, Agbenorwu who doubles as the Chairman of Ketu South Municipal Security Committee, the operations were not to harras or attack the residents.
He indicated the exercise well planned security control which were in known of all the state authorities and stakeholders including the traditional authorities and office holders in the area to make the place a safe heaven for the residents.
He explained that the primary purpose of the exercise was to smoke out the persons suspected to be dealing with drugs including; cannabis and other hard drugs in houses and ghettoes in the wake of the recent disturbance of the secessionists (rebels) called the Homeland Study Group Foundation (HSGF), who claimed to be fighting independence of Western Togoland.
The MCE who is very passionate about the peaceful coexistence in the area denied the accusation by the residents that the security agents exercise was show of force and harassment of their lives.

Aflao District Police Command, Military and Immigration officers picked on criminal activities by some residents in the area.
He said the security agents were committed to clampdown on drug use in particular, which was on the rise in Aflao noting, though substances were retrieved at locations of the swoop, not a single one of the suspects arrested could be pinned to them, “an indication that these persons might have thrown away the exhibits upon seeing the police.”
The residents of Aflao in the Ketu South Municipality have raised concerns about a recent swoop by security agents in the area describing it as a show of force and harassment.
Some of the affected persons accused the security officers of harassing innocent citizens including; a nursing mother, who had her child strapped at the back just upon mere suspicion.
A commercial motorist Mr Mensah Tay, in that report said he was on his way to buy medication from a chemical store around Timber Market, Aflao when he was arrested and made to spend the night away from home.
But speaking in an interview with Daily Analyst on Saturday October 24, 2020 over the issue, Mr, Agbenorwu who doubles as the Çhairman of Ketu South Municipal Security Committee denied accusation by the residents to the effect that they were harrased and terrorised by the security agents in the wake of the recent swoop, saying that there was absolutely peace in the Aflao enclaves in the Volta Region.
“There is no tension and harrasement of persons in Aflao as was being claimed by the residents in the area. I want to say and assure Ghanaians, particularly the people in the Volta Region that everybody is enjoying peace and there is free movement of people in the area,” the MCE stressed.
He assured that his outfit wouldn’t contenance with any criminal activity that would have the tendency to create insecurity, tension and confusion in the area.
On the issue of declaration of the Ketu South Constituency by the Ghana Police Administration as one of the hotpots for the Deçember 7, 2020 general elections, Mr Agbenorwu assured that his outfit is currently working with national security agents to ensure that there is peace before, during and after the general elections in Ketu South.
He indicated that his outfit has teamed up with the National Peace Council and Ghana Center for Democratic Development (CDD-Ghana) including other civil society and faith based organizations to intentify public education on how to ensure violence free election within the Ketu South Constituency in the Deçember 7, 2020.
