A heavy downpour in Sokoban electoral area in the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly of the Ashanti has rendered scores of people homeless.
Two buildings were destroyed following a heavy downpour which was characterised by some strong winds.
Two buildings at Sokoban wood village and Sokoban Newsiteschools, all had their roofing sheets and part of the building completely destroyed.
Silver FM’s Akwadaa Nyame reported that, residents whose houses were destroyed have been forced to seek refuge with friends and family members.
Some of the residents has also trapped in their rooms because of the length of the water waiting for National disaster management organization (NADMO) to rescue them. Though some of the residents has been rescued by the NADMO but yet some of them is still trapped inside their rooms.
The Assembly member in the area Hon Kwadwo Boateng K, in an interview confirmed the news but revealed that plans are underway to cushion the affected persons.
Hon Boateng revealed that his outfit has already down situational assessment and compiled names of affected victims for the needed help to be offered to them after a technical meeting.
“The impact of the heavy downpour has been very devastating as our assessment shows that eleven houses were destroyed”.
Meanwhile, the assembly member who has since visited the scene to ascertain the extent damage has pledged the Assembly’s support to the affected persons and institutions.
