The Acting Chief of Danchira in the Ga-South Municipality of the Greater Accra Region, Nii Amu Dodoo II, and his elders, have called on politicians of the various political parties in the country to desist from their practice of recruiting youths or the unlawful vigilante groups to foment trouble before, during after the 2020 general elections.
He noted that just as the national biometric voters registration was largely successful; all stakeholders should ensure that the December 7 2020 upcoming general election should be free, transparent and fair devoid od any violence.
Nii Dodoo who is also the Atufutse of Danchira made the call at the Climax of this year’s Danchira Version of Homowo Festival, celebrated in grand style at the weekend in the town.
As part of the celebration, the Ga traditional meal called Kpoikpoi was sprinkled at vantage points by the Acting -Chief on the principal streets of the town amidst music, dance singing of Asafo Songs, firing of musketry, jubilation and chanting of praises unto God.
The youth further called for God’s mercies and protection for their leaders and subjects.
The Chiefs and people of the town including their Traditional priests [ Wolomei] cum Queen Mothers proudly celebrated and observed the Festival , a heritage bequeathed to them by their ancestors several years ago .
Nii Dodoo went on to advice Zongo youths who are usually reported to be recruited to cause violence before, during and after elections not allow themselves to be used any more to cause trouble.
“You should not allow yourselves to be used by politicians to go and snatch ballot boxes of the votes cast by the eligible voters just to favour any political party,” they warned the youths.”
The Acting Chief continued that any time they are contacted by politicians to cause electoral violence they should refuse and rather suggested that the politicians engage their own children to go and cause the violence.
On the issue of vehicles knocking down pedestrians on their major road, the Acting Chief noted that complaints have been made to their MCE and MP to let the authorities in charge of constructing speed rumps to construct them at vantage points of their busy roads to prevent the periodic knocking down of pedestrians in the town.
He added that they are confident that the politicians will be quick in addressing this issue.
On her part, the Queen Mother of Danchira, Naa Aba Densua I, advised the whole nation in general and Danchira in particular to promote peace before, during and after the general elections for the polls to be successful.
Nana Densua I continued that there is no point in fighting among “ourselves because all the political parties belong to one nation that is struggling to achieve a common goal of socio-economic development and economic growth to the benefit of all.”
The Queen Mother averred that “if we allow war or a fight to occur because of election and power struggle, it is women and children who would be hard hit, so mothers urgently need to advise their wards to promote peace instead of war during the polls.”
Touching on Teenage Pregnancy, she noted that the town has that challenge but working hard to ensure that they would address the issue.
She bemoaned that “unity and love that is lacking in the town should be fostered among the people so that they can be proper, each neighbor’s keeper, then adults can advise girls against teenage pregnancy even if they are not blood relations to prevent the social canker and other deviant behavior among the girls.
She pleaded with the government through their MCE and MP to fight hard to get development projects to their area for the jobless youth to gain employment and be more responsible in society.
Speaking on Zongo Youth or Muslim Youth reported often to cause violence during elections , the Head of Nii Dzambi Amu Family , Nii Gamu , who is also the Chief of Ga-Adangme Community living at Danchira , noted that he usually feels bad when Islam is associated with violence because, the religion stands for peace and love.
He therefore called on parents of Muslim youth who engage in violence to desist from the practice and rather emulate the good leadership style of the Holy Prophet Mohammed who was highly tolerant of distractors and even thanked and forgive them, whenever they offend him.
He emphasized that Koran never supported violence but rather preaches peace and not war so all people who follow the Holy Prophet should promote peace.
He noted that just as he is proud and never regrets being a Muslim, he would like to advise Muslim youths to emulate the Holy Prophet for them to gain good image instead of a bad name.
Also, present at the occasion was the Chief Traditional Priest of Nii Dzambi Amu Family, Numo Allotey Abosseey II who led his people to perform all the Homowo customs and rites.
The Wolomo also prayed for the Chiefs and people of Danchira to receive abundant blessings in all their endeavours for the coming year from the supreme God.
