DISTRICT Chief Executive (DCE) for Central Tongu District Assembly in the Volta Region, Mr Moore Zonyrah, has called on the residents in the water affected communities on the bank of River Volta at Mepe Traditional Area in the North Tongu District to exercise restrain and collaborate with the district authorities to solve the problem.
The villages in Mepe which were affected by the recent move of construction firm, the Supreme Bird Investment Construction Limited to cut off their main water pipeline they connected from Community Water and Sanitation Agency (CWSA) river water treatment plant at Mafi-Adidome are Dudevi, Atitetey, Adexorkpodzi, Adexor, Manase and Zortikpo.
These are the six areas within the Zone Phase Three District of Water Pipeline Distribution Project in Mepe under the Mafi-Adidome treatment water plant project being managed by the Community Water and Sanitation Agency.
The construction company which was hired by the Ghana Highways Authority (GHA) cut the water pipeline of these affected communities on Monday April 13, 2020 in the connection of the reshaping of the road from the Mafi-Adidome through Mepe-Dudevi-Adordonu linking to the Kpordoe Junction to Juapong area.
As a result of this development, the affected residents in the media publication in Today newspaper, Myafricatoday.net and Bizzygh.com on Tuesday July 27, 2020 complained that their plight has been compounded following what they described as the “lackadaisical attitude and delay tactics” by officials of the North Tongu District Assembly, Central Tongu District Assembly and the Member of Parliament (MP) for North Tongu Constituency, Mr Samuel Okudzeto-Ablakwa, to impress upon the construction company to reconnect the main water pipeline from the Mafi-Adidome river treatment water plant but all to no avail.
Aside from the damage caused to the main water pipeline, the residents in the affected communities lamented that the construction company has also cut them off from other satellite communities where they could have trekked to fetch safe water.
But in a response, the DCE called on the residents in these water affected communities to be calmed since the corrective measures were being put in place by the Community Water and Sanitation at Mafi-Adidome and Supreme Bird Investment Construction Limited through his instrumentality to have the water pipeline problem be reconnected.
In order to nomalize the situatuon to send or distribute water to the affected residents in these communities,Mr Zoryrah on Tuesday July 27, 2020 visited the road with the drivers of the water tankers to access the road.
Giving commentary on the ongoing reshaping of the road from the Mafi-Adidome to Juapong, the DCE stated that contractor of Supreme Bird did the road for GHA and he was paid by government to enable “us to repair the water pipeline for the residents in the affected communities in Mepe.
According to him, the materials for that repair on the water pipe were procured appropriately.
He further assured that the engineers are doing the work from Mafi Avedo zone and will get to Manase zone on Friday July 30, 2020 to start digging of the water pipeline to solve the crisis.
Mr Zoryrah further stressed the need for the residents in the water affected communitiesto have some patience and collaborate with them to refix the problem.
