Director of Elections of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mr Elvis Afriye Ankrah, has given a stern warning of prosecuting all thugs of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) on assumption of office in 2021, if the President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo led government fails to do the needful.
Addressing a press conference on Wednesday, 22 July, 2020 in Accra, Mr. Ankrah noted that the unmerited brutal attacks meted on the NDC’s members without any provocations and the laxity on security agents to deal with those thugs after they have witnessed the acts of violence and those the party has reported, leaves much to be desired.
He observed that the seemingly quietness of the president on the matter, means, the attacks were a well thought plan.
According to him, the invasion of Minister of Special Development Initiatives, Mrs Mavis Hawa Koomson and NPP thugs at the Polling station in the Ewutu Senya East Constituency of the Central Region, on Monday, July 20, 2020, amidst sporadic gunshots and burning of motorcycles and disrupting the voter registration registration without any provocations, was a violent act that must make her face the full regrous of the law.
He stated that MP and the thugs have been left to walk freely.
According to him, the renege of the security offices who have been tasked with the mandate of ensuring sanity has fuel the unwarranted brutal attacks on fellow countrymen and women was one of disappointment and lose of confidence to protect them.
To this end, the National Communication Officer of the NDC, Lawyer Sammy Gyamfi cautioned members of the general public to protect themselves with whatever they could against any brazen brutalities.
“The NDC is totally disgusted by the thuggish and criminal shooting incident involving a gang of NPP thugs who were led by Hawa Koomson, which has received both national and international condemnation, and which have been admitted by the minister of state herself. We condemn in no in no uncertain terms such thuggery sponsored and led by a high_ranking government official and law maker who is supposed to uphold the law at all times”, Mr. Ankrah said in a statement read addressing the press.
“Hawa Koomson has by this criminal act, and the several brazen brutalities she and her gang have meted to NDC supporters in the last couple of weeks , demonstrated that she is a gangster who doesn’t deserve to occupy any public position of trust. And we join the many voices of conscience in our society to demand her immediate dismissal from office and prosecution for this heinous crime”, the statement further stated.
He bemoaned what he termed active involvement of some unscrupulous security officials belonging to the Ghana Armed Forces and Ghana Police Service who have been seen unleashing such a barbaric attacks on individuals believed to members of the NDC.
The NDC is hereby calling on the security services to act responsibly in bringing perpertuators to book if they want the citizenry to repose confidence in them.
