Serious danger is said to be looming at Awutu Loye in the Awutu Senya west district of central region as the only source of drinking water has been contaminated and turned toxic.
The colour of the river which is said to be the only source of drinking water in Awutu Loye has suddenly turned black with a serious stench which has affected aquatic lives and occupants in the community.
Speaking with some aggrieved residents, they alleged that, the river was contaminated after Zoomlion company limited begun dumping of waste at a community called Awutu Bosomabena as a final disposal site where part of the river was filled with wastes.
Residents further bemoaned over the serious stench from the water and the waste a situation they described as unbearable for that matter, they are appealing to the mp for the area Hon George Andah and DCE Hon. Stephen Kwame Quaye to intervene.
On the other hand, chief of Awutu Loye Nana James Bortey hinted that, Loye is a farming community with a population of over 500 but access to portable drinking water is a major problem adding that their community has been totally neglected in terms of basic social amenities.
The traditional leader has however called on the mp to seek the well-being of the Awutu Loye community.
In an interview with this reporter Mr Ibrahim Adams the general manager for “MICKLEB FARMS ” who has over 1000 acres of coconut, palm-tree plantation, vegetables and large scale poultry farming in Awutu Loye has also expressed concern over the pollution of the river which he said has affected his business (farms)
