RESIDENTS of Prestea and its adjoining communities in the Prestea Huni-Valley Municipality of Western Region have threatened to vote against President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and Member of Parliament (MP) for the area, Mrs Babara Oteng Gyasi in the 2020 general elections if the current New Patriotic Party ( NPP ) government fails to redeem its 2016 campaign promise to fix the Prestea township roads.
“Failure to asphalt Prestea township roads before December 7 2020 means you are following appropriately former President John Dramani Mahama led National Democratic Congress (NDC ) government on this issue and we will advise ourselves in the 2020 general elections appropriately, the leadership of Communicators for Development (PCD), pressure group in Prestea in a press statement stressed.
The statement which was singed and issued by Vice President of Prestea Communicators for Development (PCD) Mr James Samuel Ackerson taken a swipe at the bad roads network in Prestea and it adjourning communities.
The statement noted that it is an unpleasant and a disgraceful moment to be in Prestea, a town that sits on plenty Gold. When it rains, Mud is found everywhere.
‘During the dry season, the dust is another hurdle that we battle with. This has posses a great threat to our health.
“We are tired of having our mothers and sisters having miscarriages due to the bad state of our roads.
“Mr President, nothing is more important to us than asphalting of Prestea town roads.We want our hospital to be upgraded but we want Prestea town road to be asphalt first before 7th December, 2020 general elections, ” the statement added.
The statement mentioned the elegible voters in Prestea voted against the former President, John Dramani Mahama and the former Member of Parliament for Prestea Huni-Valley Constituency, Hon Adu Blay Kwofie for their inability to asphalt Prestea township roads
The statement the people in Prestea Huni Valley were very happy when the15-km Prestea-town road was captured in 2018 mid-year budget review presented by the Minister of Finance, Mr Ken Ofori-Atta.
Currently, the statement noted that some gutters are being done on Prese Himan township roads by Power Construction Corporation of China Limited (POWERCHINA).
“It will interest you to know that 9 months after snail pace works on Prestea Himan gutters the contractor has no road map for Prestea town roads.
“We love and appreciate your free SHS education, planting for food and jobs, one constituency one ambulance, restoration of teachers and nursing training allowance, Nabco but fix Prestea town roads now.
It concluded that this will make us visit home often to be with loved ones, revive business and save lives,” the statement said.
